South Central Jurisdiction of BMCR Endorses Dr. Sheron C. Patterson for Episcopal Office

DALLAS – Today, the South-Central Jurisdiction of the Black Methodist For Church Renewal (SCJ BMCR) announced its endorsement of Dr. Sheron C. Patterson for the Episcopal Office in the South-Central Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church.

Dr. Sheron C. Patterson is the Senior Pastor of Hamilton Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas, one of the largest African American UMC congregations in the North Texas Annual Conference.

The South-Central Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church remains the only jurisdiction of the denomination’s five jurisdictions with an African American woman serving in Episcopal leadership.

“Dr. Patterson is a social justice drum major who passionately fights for the dispossessed,” said SCJ BMCR Jurisdictional Chair Yvette Richards. “As the first African American woman ordained an elder in the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, and pastor of some of Dallas’ most historically significant congregations, she is used to breaking stained glass ceilings. We’re proud to endorse her mission-field minded leadership and vision for moving the United Methodist Church forward.
