Where Do We Go From Here?

A Conversation Between African-American Women and the Police.

If it is to be, it’s up to me!

This is the message that nearly 100 African-American women heard when they came together with several black officers of the Dallas Police Department on Saturday, April 22, 2017.

Dr. Lawana Gladney’s Four-Prong Approach to Healing

  • Acknowledging your emotions. Understanding where they come from.
  • Educate yourself. Understand your rights so the fear and emotions won’t come out. When you fight with education, it gives you empowerment.
  • Let out your emotions, but find a safe place to do it. It may be writing in a journal, talking into a recorder, going to the gym, etc. You have to manage your emotions; get it out. Because when you hold it in, that’s when it becomes toxic.
  • Turn a corner, and let it go. If you’re holding on to stuff, it will drag you down emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Tell yourself, “I focused on the problem, now I need to focus on the solution.”
